Technology. We all use it. Every single person reading this is using Technology. Technology is how we advance as a species.
What do you think of when you think of Technology? Perhaps a computer? Maybe one of the Mars Rovers? To tell the truth, everything we use is a product of Technology. The cars we drive, the spoons we eat with, the bowls we put our food in. All of these are a product of Technology.
There are some truly amazing Technological advances that are coming that will change our lives. For Example:
Google’s Autonomous Self Driving car, Google Fiber, and How about Open Source 3D Printing?
There are also a lot of things that are holding back our Technological advancement. For Example:
Patents are holding the creation of new Technologies back. Patents are there to protect people’s property so that others cannot use them without paying the person who created it. This is good except for when it’s not. I’d say that it is bad more than it is good. It places people who want to create Technology into a position where they are going to need extremely large amounts of money to be able to create their product.
Big companies have been abusing Patents by suing anyone that has a product name even close to theirs. This stifles innovation especially for the people who are making startups and don’t have the money to get a proper defense attorney.
Apple is one of the worst offenders but is not the only company doing it.
Lack of education is also a factor that is stifling Technological advancement. Luckily we are actually working on a fix for that. For Example, Coursera is a website where you can get a top-of-the-line college education for free.
I want to stop with the examples and want to go into more detail about each one later on in the blog. But I hope that you are getting the idea of where I’m going with this.
I feel that we are advanced enough as a species that we can modify our lives only slightly and be still be able to house, feed, and educate everyone on the planet in a sustainable way.
I hope you follow along and share your ideas. Most of all I hope to get your mind’s going.
